Tai Lue Weaving

The greatest concentration of Tai Lue information, especially weaving, is to be found in the town of Chiang Kham. There are two weaving centres;
- The largest, with a retail shop, is in Ban Thung Mok, located at the rear of Wat Thung Mok.
- A smaller display and weaving demonstation area is located at Wat Phra That Sop Waen, towards the northern end of the Route 21 bypass.
Wat Thung Mok: the place is neither well sign-posted nor easy to find. The best way is to locate Wat Chiang Baan on Route 1021, approx 800 metres south-west of the 1021 bypass at the southern end of Chiang Kham. At Wat Chiang Baan, turn right and drive aprox 1 km. Wat Thung Mok is the 1st (only) wat on this street, on the right-hand side. Park inside the wat grounds, and walk through the rear gate and the OTOP shop is immediately to your left.
Wat Analayo is located in the foothills across the lake from the town of Phayao. You could easily spend an afternoon exploring the labyrinth of roads leading up to temples and monuments on the hill tops and ridges here; 
Wat Sri Khom Kham has one of Thailands tallest Buddha images. Towering 17 metres above those within, it is truely impressive. The temple complex also has graphic illustrations of the Buddhist version of hell, tucked away in the gardens. 
There are more than 40 Tai Lue villages across Phayao Province, with a strong connection going back to the height of the Lanna Kingdom of 750 years ago. Tai Lue are famous for their weaving, Chiang Kham is the place to go to admire and purchase...
